A+++++ thread. Would read again!
I'm putting this here because, I'd rather have it appreciated a bit more and not get stupid comments from what has been in TCL lately. Though I do expect stupid comments, but I know you MFrs are joking.
Bit of a back story on the Old Beast.
Bought it 6 years ago this month for $225, drove it for 10 months and then the valves decided to freeze up.
As it sat for the past 5 years.

Too bad it's not a '79 so you could go for the full Training Day look.
Anyway, what's your plan for this thing?
It oddly posted it before I was finished but whatever.
My dad and I moved it from there to to the driveway so that it would be easier to work on.
Had to replace the wheels as the tires on the old Ranger wheels were in no shape to hold any air. These were some American Racing Wheels that I had gotten off of the 87' SS that I bought for parts, took the chrome off and painted them black and put them onto the Olds' that I had. The Olds' rotted away so I then put them onto the MC. I'll replace them eventually with some SS wheels that I had gotten free quite a while ago, but these will do.
Here is the 229 C.I. or 3.8 L V6. It's only redeeming quality is that it's nearly front-mid engined due to how far back it is on the frame. It sits directly over the front cross-member. It served its purpose.
It's surprisingly sludge free, but the car did have a knack for giving it's self oil changes frequently due to the oil leaks. The middle exhaust valve, number 3 if you count from the left, is one of the frozen ones.
Took off the air pump and alternator. There is a useless item that wont go back on this, the air pump, no need for it when I take the catalytic converter out and put in headers, and x-pipe, and high flow mufflers. Thankfully it does not need to pass emmisions anymore.
Next to come out is the water pump, radiator, and A/C system, and just as a reminder, the A/C system has never worked on this car and the whole system was empty before I took it out. I don't plan on keeping the A/C so out that will come as well.
Well everything is off of the front of the engine. It only took me 4 hours just to remove everything from the front of the block to the nose of the car, other than the charcoal canister, which will stay.
That's what my hands looked like once I was done. Old cars are greasy.
There it is several pounds lighter than when I started. All of the tools that you see in that picture is what I used to get everything out.
A/C compressor, condenser, fan shroud and part of the Air pump. Along with the rotten tires on the Ranger wheels.
Alternator and air pump, keeping the alternator.
The old radiator was actually a fairly new one.
All that space up front.
I plan on making it just driveable for now to cruise in and to go to the local cars shows that allow nearly anything to drive in, mainly the car show that happens at the Bass Pro Shop in Foxboro MA.
But eventually I want a bit of a pro touring/drag strip car.
More to come tomorrow if I feel like it, as I will have worked on cars all morning.

Perfect for an LS1 swap.
Unless you have a ton of money, and want an LS7.
Either way, continue.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

If my wife wouldn't divorce me, I would build a Monte Carlo in a heartbeat. And it would have Weld wheels.![]()

As the owner and builder of a 12 second G-body some near 20 years ago, I approve of this thread.
Ahh Monte Carlos. The silver medal of G body goodness.
Just kidding, these old boats are great. So simple and have so much potential. My brother hacked about 12 of these things to pieces in his never ending quest to have a GNX. Great to see someone taking initiative and bringing one back to glory.
I'll be watching.

Awesome thread! When I was in HS I had a midnight blue LS. Three of my friends had SS. A black, a white, and a silver.
Loved rolling through town together. Loud ass exhaust growling.
