Thread: Just found me a decent low mileage '81 Scirocco S

  1. #1

Just found me a decent low mileage '81 Scirocco S

Bought it from the second owner and he told me the car had 8900 miles only when he purchase it from the first owner in Texas. It now has 33,xxx miles and ZERO rust.

The car drives amazing and has some upgrades, oil cooler, sway bars, stress bars, bilstein shocks/struts,short shifter,K&N filter and 14" ATS wheels.

paint is faided and dash has lots of cracks, ohh and I need to find me a front bumper.

    More updates and upgrades soon.

That does not appear to be the original cluster, as only the early cars came with the silver bezel. I'd take the mileage claim with a grain (or a shaker) of salt......

Don't listen to him! While it's not the original cluster, the speedo is appropriate for the model year - probably the victim of a stereo theft. Wheels are period correct too! Looks like a great find for your neck of the woods!

Silver was a non-s, the wood grain was the S IIFIRC

I believe the S bezel should be black, but as mentioned that this likely the original speedometer. I think silver was used in the early cars and wood grain is in the later non S cars. This looks like a great find

This is correct. 75-77 had silver, 78-81 non-S were woodgrain, S was textured black.
    Deal with it.

Thanks for all the comments and I'm getting to learn more about the car with all you guys info. i had a friend back in the date that also had an '81 Sirocco S and it was also silver.

i'm getting some stuff now to start fixing it up.

I need a front bumper and a dash ASAP. Also got a the rear luvers but not sure if i should put them on.

Should I repaint the car in the factory color or leave it the way it is?

    Thanks guys

And yes it's very hard to find a S1 down here in south FL

    Nice find!

Mileage is irrelevant. Most of our cars are tmu or the odometer stops working. Where in NJ did you find such a nice example of a S1 'S' ?

Oh... Right ( I just read your thread more carefully ) The NJ plate I was reacting to I guess.

Nice S1. Reminds me of a Cosmos I had back in HS.

It's a Florida antique plate, Mike.

It does look like a 1980s New Jersey blue plate though.

Nice find on the car, I'd keep it as original as possible personally (body-wise).
    Deal with it.

Great find, looks to be a good base to operate from.

IMO fix the rear quarter and repaint in the original colour.

US spec bumpers you should find fairly easily, if not I have a set here in Australia if your willing to pay the shipping ( No Will, I am not bringing another set on the plane )

I see the HVAC control panel is the black wrinkle finish, as mentioned above, likely the original dash fitment.

Good luck and ask away, there is a huge amount of knowledge here

Oh, well that looks nice but where are the ATS? I'm sure somebody will ask to buy them from you.
