Based on the Concept X6, the Active Hybrid utilizes a modular two-mode hybrid system built into the transmission - including batteries, electronics, and a power inverter - to increase its fuel efficienty at least 20% versus a non-hybrid model.
The two-mode hybrid system, co-developed with General Motors and DaimlerChrysler, uses twin electric motors which can either be used both for acceleration, both for battery charging, or one as a generator to power the second motor, which is supposed to help economy while at a steady-state cruise.
It's already been answered in the previous thread: The point of the X6 is the same as Lexus RX350, which is NONE.
Having a "Hybrid" model is another proof that it's going to compete with the "RX".
All fellow members of the Roman senate hear me. Shall we continue to build palace after palace for the rich? Or shall we aspire to a more noble purpose and build decent housing for the poor? How does the senate vote?
What's the point of any vehicle over the level of an econo-box people mover...wait for it....
Why not?
Its a design exercise that gives a manufacturer a platform to work with for tech development. Its a concept vehicle at this point, with potential for wide release. Sort of the Infinity FX-killer, which as a utility vehicle ain't exactly that useful. (but its fast and sleek and this x6 reminnds me of it.)

Except I'd be willing to bet the RX offers more "utility" in the way of greater passenger/cargo room.
Yeah, perhaps a whooping 1L!!!
Both are equally disgusting and aimed at the same crowd.

Ding! Ding! Ding! I believe we have a winner!
On the other hand it probably will be offered in a manual....

The advantage to buying a higher-mileage model is that you can buy the car in two payments -- the first is for the initial purchase and the second is for your mechanic's retirement fund. -PassSedanGLX
